Maika and Megan Bayne Win The 13th Goddess Of Stardom Tag Tournament
Divine Kingdom’s Maika and Megan Bayne secured a future tag team title match by defeating Suzu Suzuki and Mei Seira in the finals of the 13th Goddess of Stardom Tag League.
They first triumphed over the pairing of AZM and Miyu Amasaki to advance to the main event finals later on that night, garnering a total of 10 points from the round-robin tag tournament. Maika and Megan’s pre-final win-loss record stood at 5-1.
In the finals, Maika ultimately scored the pinfall victory over High Speed Champion Mei Seira with her signature Michinoku Driver after nearly 16 minutes of back-and-forth offense between both teams.
Maika and Suzuki’s rivalry further develops
Suzuki seemed to initiate a sign of respect to Maika and Megan after their match. But Maika, still upset from losing to Suzuki in their last encounter at the 5 Star Grand Prix finals earlier in September, attacked her with an assist from Megan despite winning. Maika and Suzuki’s former friendship has seemingly grown into a bitter rivalry due to in-ring competition.
STARDOM’s Executive Producer Rossy Ogawa then rewarded the winning team with the Goddess of Stardom rings after the post-match chaos to signify their tournament victory.
Divine Kingdom reflects on their tournament performance
In a post-show interview, Megan expressed her initial hesitations with participating in the tag league as she considered herself more of an individual competitor, but she was grateful that Maika was her partner throughout the experience.
“When this tournament first started, I wasn’t sure because I’m not used to teaming and tagging. I don’t work with anybody,” says Megan. Nonetheless, she adds, “But when I found out that I was teaming with Maika, I got a little excited. But now that it’s the end of the tournament, my first tournament in Stardom, and we won. Divine Kingdom was the top of all the other tag teams.”
The duo is now guaranteed a Goddess of Stardom Championship match somewhere down the line against defending champions Natsupoi and Saori Anou. The date of the future championship match is yet to be announced with Natsupoi’s current injury playing a crucial factor towards the match’s imminence.
