'The Amityville Horror' Filming Was Disrupted After a Dead Body Was Found at a Filming Location
The haunting of Amityville is one of the most iconic stories in the horror genre. As the story goes, the family of George and Kathy Lutz moves into a beautiful house on Long Island, not knowing that it was the location of a horrible mass murder just a year before. They chose to keep the house in the hope of living a peaceful life; however, a horrible presence haunts the family—the father begins acting weirdly, and the daughter starts seeing people—and they endure 28 days of terror.
The story is based on the true accounts of the Lutz family and has intrigued millions of people. Whether you believe the accounts, they have spawned many movies. This includes the original The Amityville Horror (1979) and its 2005 remake. It makes one wonder what filming such a supernaturally charged movie would be like. Ryan Reynolds and Melissa George, co-stars in The Amityville Horror (2005), have a few stories to tell.
A dead body is found on the set of ‘The Amityville Horror’
George was shooting in a boathouse in The Amityville Horror (2005) when area police approached the crew to inform them that they found the body of a local fisherman floating nearby. It definitely leaves a sense of foreboding for a dead body to wash ashore on the set of a supernatural film about a mysterious haunting.
When asked about the incident, George told Radio Free Entertainment, “We were filming at the boathouse, and the police came by. They were on the water there, and they said that they found a dead body that had floated to the surface. We were like, ‘Awesome! [laughs] That’s making everything much more comfortable in this movie!'”
The cast and crew had eerie wake-up times
A dead body appearing on the set of The Amityville Horror (2005) was not the only creepy incident.
The story behind the hauntings is that in 1974, Ronald DeFeo Jr. killed six members of his family in the house located at 112 Ocean Avenue, Long Island. Reportedly, they were all killed at 3:15 am. Apparently, the cast and crew, including Reynolds, would wake up at exactly 3:15 am every morning.
Reynolds told Movie Web, “I think a lot of people make that stuff up to sell their movie, but there was some weird stuff that happened. A lot of the crew were waking up at 3:15 in the morning, which was when all these atrocities in the house took place each time. I think it was a subconscious thing. You read the script and suddenly pop awake at 3:15 in the morning.”
In recent years, Reynolds has focused on comedy and action films, like Deadpool, steering away from horror. Given that The Amityville Horror was his introduction to the genre, it is no wonder he hasn’t returned.
The whole filming experience was creepy
According to Factinate, George had supernatural experiences during her downtime on the set. She reported she got full-body chills the first time she saw the set of the home.
The real Kathy Lutz died of emphysema while the stars were shooting the movie based on her story. Some took that as a bad omen. George talked about an ice-cold patch of air that would follow her around the set after she learned Lutz had died. When you watch the movie, the fear on George’s face is often not acting at all. She was genuinely terrified for a good part of the filming.
